Overview
In 2019, Gravity Water launched the Indonesia Initiative to expand its water relief efforts to communities throughout the Nation’s island communities. Gravity Water has the goal working with local companies and communities to create an impact that could be managed, maintained, and sustained by the local communities throughout the future. With Indonesia receiving a large amount for rainfall each year, and with rainwater harvesting being a common cultural practice for communities throughout Indonesia, Gravity Water systems have a natural and welcomed approach to providing clean drinking water to schools in need throughout the region.
Indonesia Program Development
Gravity Water is currently in Phase II of the Organization's five-stage development strategy for Indonesia. Gravity Water has worked in partnership with local education administrations to install the Nation's first three Gravity Water systems, however, is still in the planning phase for growth and structure throughout the Nation. Though Gravity Water piloted its first three projects in Bali, the organization sees significant potential in working with rural, "last-mile" communities, where access to electricity or advanced technology and filtration equipment is limited. Additionally, Gravity Water has identified small island communities as a target demographic, since many low-lying island communities lack sufficient groundwater and have a constant threat of saltwater intrusion, especially with rising sea levels; fortunately, Indonesia's islands receive a large amount of rainfall, providing a great alternative to groundwater for these low-lying island communities.

Where We Operate
Currently, Gravity Water has three pilot projects in the Tabanan and Bangli Regencies of Bali, Indonesia. Gravity Water is currently looking for funding opportunities to expand the program to at-risk communities in the West Java region and plans to enter the "Positioning to Scale" phase for the country by the July 2022.
