Strategic Planning in Malaysia for 2025
The monsoon rains continued to impact Kelantan, Malaysia throughout December, creating challenges and opportunities for Gravity Water’s rainwater harvesting initiatives. While navigating the challenges posed by these conditions, the organization also seized the opportunity to focus on strategic planning, laying the groundwork for several new projects scheduled to launch in 2025.
In the coming year, Gravity Water is set to complete an additional 20 rainwater harvesting system installations at schools in Kelantan, further strengthening water security and resilience in the region. Additionally, the organization is planning its expansion into southern Malaysia, marking an exciting new chapter in its mission to address water challenges nationwide.
As part of its ongoing commitment to system functionality, Gravity Water worked closely with its implementing partner, Water Watch Penang, to conduct reviews of past system installations. This partnership ensures that existing rainwater harvesting systems remain fully operational following recent flooding events.

The Taiwan Rainwater Harvesting Pilot Initiative reaches 42 new installations
In December, Gravity Water’s Taiwan team made significant strides in advancing the rainwater harvesting pilot initiative, completing 42 new clean water project installations to date. This achievement brings the organization within reach of its goal to install a total of 48 rainwater harvesting systems across Taiwan.
The majority of the installations have been built in Taipei, aligning with the organization’s strategic aim to enhance water resilience in urban areas. Additionally, the team successfully launched five systems in Changhua Province, marking a critical step in expanding efforts to Central Taiwan.

The Gravity Water Vietnam team is gaining government approvals for new projects in 2025
On December 10th, the President of Dien Bien Provincial People's Committee officially approved the Dien Bien Initiative 2024–2025. This collaborative project between UNICEF and Gravity Water aims to expand access to safe and sustainable WASH services by installing rainwater harvesting and water treatment systems.
The project will benefit 50 schools and 10 household clusters, improving water quality for over 11,000 students, 680 teachers and administrators, and 50 households experiencing water insecurity. Additionally, training will be provided to 100 government staff, including members of the communal People’s Committee and the Department of Education and Training, to ensure effective operation and maintenance of the new water systems.
The Gravity Water team has been working closely with Dien Bien PCERWASS to plan the system installations and coordinate with the commune, district, and other relevant local authorities. The installations are scheduled to begin in early January 2025.

The HCMC Department of Planning and Investment (HCM DPI) raised questions regarding the project to support 25 schools with water systems. In response, the Can Gio District People’s Committee, as the direct beneficiary, submitted clarifications to HCM DPI on December 18th.
Gravity Water, in collaboration with the Christina Noble Children’s Foundation (CNCF), is awaiting the final decision from the HCMC People’s Committee (HCM PPC). Once approved, the two organizations are prepared to install 25 new water systems in Can Gio District.
Tay Ninh Province
Gravity Water has been working with PACCOM to complete the procedures for expanding its operational area in Tay Ninh Province. On December 19th, PACCOM sent an official letter to the Tay Ninh People’s Committee to gather opinions from relevant agencies on the expansion request.
On December 23rd, Gravity Water met with provincial agencies in a meeting chaired by the Department of Foreign Affairs, with participation from the Friendship Union and the Department of Education and Training. During the meeting, Gravity Water introduced its organization, water filtration technology, and implementation plans for Tay Ninh. The agencies posed questions about equipment maintenance, component availability in Vietnam, filtration capabilities (e.g., limestone residue), and whether surveys would cover all districts or specific areas. Gravity Water confidently addressed these questions through detailed presentations.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and other agencies expressed support for Gravity Water’s expansion and encouraged collaboration with PACCOM to finalize the process. The Department of Education and Training will assess WASH needs across the province and provide a list of schools by January 15, 2025.
